In the context of this year’s European elections, La Maison-Atelier DAUBIGNY is pleased to exhibit a series of lithographs by Daumier, a great friend of Charles François DAUBIGNY.
These works, on the theme of the formation of EUROPE illustrate, through the attentive and critical gaze of Daumier, that period when some countries were trying to make EUROPE.
Everything starts with the speech of Victor Hugo at the 1849 UNIVERSAL PEACE CONGRESS created under the auspices of the Prince President NAPOLEON III and his friend Richard CODBEN, and we can see how already in the years 1850s-1870s it was very difficult to build a balanced and satisfactory EUROPE for all the Countries. It is impossible not to draw a parallel with what is happening today.
This exhibition is made possible thanks to Francis Van Overbecque.
